One Blood

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.”

Acts 17:26

+ One Race +

The Bible speaks of one blood, or one race, that is, the human race. A false understanding of this can lead to racism and hatred. The world divides people by race, but the church of Jesus Christ should never be guilty of this. For we all are related and have the same ancestry, family, and parents. Every individual is a descendent of Adam and Eve, and is accountable to God, their Creator. Racism is the offspring of evolutionary thought. The concept that one race is superior to another has created divisions, wars, and even slavery. The Christian must accept what Scripture teaches if they are to be a follower of God, Amen.

“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.”  Acts 17:28-29

This article will discuss the origin of all mankind and show the need and salvation for every human being. The design of the apostle in   Acts 17:20-31, was to convince the religious Greeks on Mars Hill, who had not heard the Scriptures, to believe in the one True and Living God, in contrast to their pagan gods. He refuted idolatry and showed them that they were accountable to the God of all creation.

The Origin of all Mankind

There is a common ancestry for all mankind. The one blood of verse 26 clearly speaks one race or one family. The Bible never uses the word race, except in running a race. The one blood describes all families of men from the same ancestor. The same blood flows in the veins of the white Europeans, black Africans, red Indians, and yellow Chinese. There is not a Jewish race, Negro race, White race, etc. In verses 28-29, the word offspring clearly shows that all men came from one man who God created (Luke 3:38; Rev. 22:16). There is clearly one flesh of men according to I Corinthians 15:39, “All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.” There is no superior race or pre-adamic race, but the human race. The sooner we realize this, the better off we will be.

In Genesis 1:26-28, God created (male and female) man in His own image, and they were to multiply and fill the earth. In Genesis 3:20, Eve is called the mother of all living, and according to I Corinthians 15:45, Adam was the first man. The law of creation is clearly seen in the phrase, “after their kind,” whether it be plant life, animal life, or human life (Genesis 1:11-12; 24-26; 6:17, 20; 7:11-16; 8:15-19). The word kind means family or group and each kind has variety, and yet there is no cross over from one kind to another. Even Darwin said, “Not one change of species into another is on record… we cannot prove that a single species has ever changed.” Every kind is known by its fruit (Luke 6:44). There are varieties of cows or horses in the world, but they are of the same kind of family. There are varieties of roses in the plant world, and yet they are of the rose kind or family. There are varieties of people in our world that vary from color, size, and shape, and yet they are of the same family or kind, that is, human kind.

The point I am making is, we all belong to the human race and are accountable to our Creator. There is no place in Biblical Truth for anyone to feel superior to another or to cast down anyone based on skin color or ethnic background. This is in contradiction to God and those who do so will be judged accordingly. May we be peace-makers especially when it comes to the issue of race, for we are all the offspring of God, Acts 17:28, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”

The Need of all Mankind

There is a common need of salvation for all mankind. According to Romans 5:12, by one man, sin and death entered into the world, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” The fall of humanity began with our first parents in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3). From that time, there has been a history of sin and rebellion in the world. The Bible declares that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom 3:9-23). All of humanity is in a weakened and sinful state (Romans 7:7-25), and no one can please God in the flesh (Romans 8:1-9).

The Scripture declares in Jeremiah 17:9, that the heart of man is very sinful, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” All of humanity is in the same sinful condition and in need of salvation. In Romans 5:12-19, we see that the disobedience of one man (Adam) brought judgment upon all humanity, and the obedience of one man (Christ) brought salvation to all that would receive it. As a member of the human race we must accept the fact that we all have the same need because we all have the same problem. We are one blood and need the blood of Christ to cleanse us from our sins (Romans 5:9).

The Salvation of all Mankind

There is a common salvation for all mankind. In Romans 10:9-17, the salvation of God is freely given to all who will receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. The whosoever of verse 11 includes all of humanity, and in verse 12, there is no difference between the Jew or Greek. The gospel is for all people (Romans 15:8-13) and all nations (Romans 16:25-27). The “all nations” refers to all humanity or all of mankind. In Acts 10:34-35, the Bible shows that God is no respecter of persons and will accept all who fear Him, “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.” In Matthew 28:19 the Great Commission includes all men, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” The Lord will have all men to be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth (I Timothy 2:4-6), and is longsuffering, not willing that any should perish but come to repentance (II Peter 3:9). The Lord Jesus Christ is the answer to mankind’s sin problem. In Heaven, there will be people from all walks of life, Revelations 7:9, “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.”

According to John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Whether red, yellow, black or white, we are all precious in His sight. For God so loved the world (all mankind) He gave His only son to redeem them.

“And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”  Acts 17:30-31
