Birth Control

“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

Psalm 127:3

Birth control is the attempt to interfere with God’s method of creating life because it stops the process of reproduction. The Lord is the author of life, and children are a gift and blessing from Him. Birth control is an attack on motherhood, family, society, and the Kingdom of God.

According to Psalms 127:3-5, children are a blessing from the Lord. When a nation or society calls God’s blessing a curse, it will receive God’s judgment. As the prophet said in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe onto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness.”

Birth Control is Unscriptural

First of all, there is not one verse in God’s Holy Word to support birth control. The first blessing and commandment in the Bible relates to children in Genesis 1:27-28. This commandment has never been changed by God, nor has it been fulfilled by man. This truth is represented in Genesis 9:1, 7; 35:11, and Psalms 127:3. When God says something once, it is important, but when it is repeated twice or even three times, it is established as a universal truth. In Genesis 1:28, please notice that the words fruitful, multiply, and replenish promote having children. Actually, the main purpose of marriage is for the propagation of the human race. Marriage is called matrimony which signifies motherhood, because it results in virgins becoming mothers. It is amazing that many will say that capital punishment is still true today, as in Genesis 9:4-7, and will admit that the rainbow is still a sign of God’s mercy, as in Genesis 9:9-13, but will deny the fact that we are to have as many children as we can for the glory of God, as stated in the same chapter (Genesis 9:1, 7). In the Scriptures, saintly women always regarded childbearing as a great privilege and if they could not bear children, it was considered a curse to them. Please consider the following women: Rachel (Genesis 30:1-2), Sarah (Genesis 17:17), Hannah (I Samuel chapter 1), Mary and Elisabeth (Luke chapter 1).

According to Psalm 139, God controls every aspect of our reproduction, from the number of children we are to have, to the color of their hair and eyes. It is God who determines whether the child is a boy or a girl and even what his or her personality, gifts, and talents will be. According to Exodus 4:11, it is the Lord who even forms the blind and the deaf.

Please understand, it is God who opens and closes the womb (Genesis 20:17-18; 33:5, Psalm 127:3). The man, Moses, counted fertility among the blessings of God as the children of Israel were to enter into the promised land, (Deuteronomy 28:11, 18; Exodus 23:26). The Bible says that God blessed Obededom in giving him eight children in I Chronicles 26:4-5. According to I Chronicles 25:5-6, God gave Heman 17 children to lift him up (that is, to exalt him).

Birth Control is Unchristian

The modern birth control movement is a pagan practice which did not start in the Church of Jesus Christ. In America it has its origin through unbelievers like Margaret Sanger. During the early 1900’s, she founded the modern birth control movement. Her first birth control clinic was opened in Brooklyn, New York, in 1916. She launched the American birth control league in 1921 and founded the Birth-control  Federation of America in 1939, which is now called Planned Parenthood Federation of America. According to Jeremiah 10:2, the Lord said, “Learn not the way of the heathen.” Margaret Sanger was truly a heathen in her beliefs. In 1916 she wrote in her book, Women and the New Race, “The most merciful thing a large thing that a large family does to one of its infants is kill it.” I challenge you to do some research on this ungodly woman who helped change the course of our nation in a destructive way. Why would the Church of Jesus Christ follow the practice of the wicked (Isaiah 5:20)? Planned Parenthood operates the nation’s largest chain of abortion facilities which perform thousands of abortions every year. This organization receives millions of dollars in grants from the government. Planned Parenthood helped form the National Abortion Federation, a trade association of abortion clinic operators, and receives millions of dollars in profits each year from the sale of birth control pills.

Birth control is the first step to abortion. It sets the thinking process in the minds of individuals that they have control over their lives instead of God.

Before 1930, there were no churches, Protestant or Catholic, that permitted unnatural means of birth control as being moral. Please notice the following list of just a few Protestant theologians who opposed birth control: Martin Luther (1483-1546), Arthur W. Pink 1886-1952), John Wesley (1703-1791), Henry Alford (1870-1871), John Brown (1722-1787), John Calvin (1509-1564), Adam Clark (1762-1832), Matthew Henry (1662-1714), and Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892).

It is a proven fact that where children are rejected through contraceptive means, abortion rates rise. One article I recently read showed the effects of the contraceptive mentality upon our country. Abortion has increased, unnatural and immoral extramarital sexual acts have increased spreading various sort of diseases, and it has cheapened life.

Birth Control is Unreasonable

It does not make sense to hinder God’s blessings. Birth control is despising God’s promises and setting aside God’s will for our lives, while ignoring His commandments. Children actually benefit the marriage in that they help bond the husband and wife together.

Childbearing is a natural process that was designed by our Creator. Why would anyone want to change or fix something that works perfectly by a surgical procedure or pill? That would be no different than taking my automobile that runs perfectly to a mechanic and asking him to fix it by pulling two plug wires off and adjusting the carburetor. Normal people desire children. Even little girls love to play with dolls.

According to Psalm 127:3-5, children bring strength to a family, church, community, and nation. The heathen know this, but we Christians just cannot seem to get it down. In Exodus 1:6-10, Pharaoh knew that in order to weaken the nation of Israel he had to decrease their birth rate. Israel had become powerful through many children being born (also read Acts 17:7; Psalm 105:24). He tried to reduce the size of the families of Israel in order to reduce their strength. Today, Satan’s army is growing while God’s army is dwindling.

Think about it, David was a great king, he wrote many of the Psalms and was in the lineage of the Messiah. If his father, Jesse, would have had one less child, David would not have been born, for he had eight sons and David was the eighth. Also, if Rachel would have had one less child, the apostle Paul who contributed so much to the writing of the New Testament would not have been born, for Jacob had twelve sons and the Apostle Paul was a descendent of Jacob’s twelfth son, Benjamin. Speaking of Benjamin, Benjamin Franklin was the 15th of 17 children. If his parents would have stopped at fourteen, so many of the wonderful discoveries he made may have taken much longer.

I wonder how many preachers, missionaries, doctors, lawyers, soldiers, and mothers have been denied the opportunity to come into this world because of birth control?

Children are an investment in the kingdom of God. God alone knows the future; let Him plan our family. We are not to play God in these matters. Our duty is to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:20). Birth control reveals the selfishness of our society. Wives are looked upon by men as legal mistresses instead of the mother of their children. May the Lord open our eyes to this important truth. It seems as though all that churches are doing today is rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic instead of dealing with the real issues. We must deal with the issue of birth control head on, or we will sink just as the Titanic did, because the damage is done and there is no one willing to take a stand to preach the truth by which the repairs can be made. Satan loves birth control because it limits God’s blessing for the Christian and is cutting off the godly seed.

1. Loss of freedom: This is a very selfish reason.

2. Finances: God will never give more mouths than he can feed (Psalm 37:25).

3. Career minded women: Women working outside of the home is a violation of Scriptures (Titus 2:4-5; I Timothy 5:14).

4. Poverty: This is not an excuse, Jesus came from a poor family where there were at least seven children.

5. Fear of having too many children: The average family is 2-6 children and really big families are the exception and not the rule. For example, Sarah had only one child, Rachel had only two children, Noah and his wife had only three children.

6. Overpopulation: This is not true. Please get the real facts as to why there are people starving in other countries; you will be shocked.

7. Ignorance of God’s Word.
